This is a recipe from my old food blog in Swedish. I collaborated with super talented photographer Saga Wendotte to make a few Christmas recipes. I love the way she shot my recipes and thought it would be fun to share them here.
Is it too soon to post Christmas recipes? I think not! And how about some Christmassy hot chocolate?
This recipe is pretty basic but the hot chocolate is spiced up by some cinnamon, ginger and cayenne pepper which makes it so delicious and warming. This hot chocolate is pretty dark and a bit bitter, just how I love it. But if you're not a fan of dark chocolate you can simply use some less cacao and some more sugar.
I have a bit of a hard time with the cold weather right now (I live in Sweden after all) but at the same time I love how cozy this time of year is. Candles, thick socks, blankets, books, hot chocolate, time spent indoors with loved ones... This weekend we're going to do some early Christmas baking. I'm thinking gingerbread cookies and saffron buns and of course some Christmas tunes in the kitchen.
Spicy Hot Chocolate
2 cups (4-5 dl) milk (I used oat milk)
2 tbsp cacao powder or regular cocoa
2-3 tsp coconut sugar or regular sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/3 tsp ground ginger
Pinch of cayenne pepper
Optional: Cinnamon sticks, to serve
2. Bring to the boil whilst whisking. Remove from the heat as soon as the milk starts to boil.
3. Pour into small mugs and enjoy! Add a cinnamon stick into the mug if you want some extra coziness.
